To Write Love on Her Arms is a story and the response to a story. It began with Renee's story and the commitment to meeting her needs. Her story started a fire, and that fire is a movement of love, a commitment to begin answering these needs and offering hope to the many who struggle with depression, addiction, suicide, self injury.
TWLOHA operates as a goverment recognized 501-(c)3 non-profit organization, under the umbrella of Fireproof Ministries.
TWLOHA's mission is to communicate hope and love to broken people. We also aim to invite and inspire lives of compassion. We believe that "rescue is possible", that we can be rescued and we are called to live as rescuers. In the same way, we believe that all people are loved and called to love others. This is an attempt at community.
TWLOHA aims to encourage, inspire, educate and challenge. We hope to help remove the stigma often associated with these issues, to encourage hurting people to talk about broken things, to know that they are not alone, and to get help. Renee's story is one of depression, drug addiction, suicide, and self injury. Beyond those specific issues, we believe that all people experience pain and brokenness. All people can relate to fear and regret. That said, we believe that hope and love and life are for all people.
Initial profits went to cover Renee's rehab expenses. We continue to help support her as she gets her feet on the ground. Beyond that, money essentially goes now to two places:
1. Operating costs: production, management of online store, promotional expenses such as printing and shipping of flyer cards, legal fees, design fees (t-shirts, web, flyers), booth for Cornerstone
(and future events). Also, we often send shirts to hurting kids, so when we do that, we cover the production cost plus shipping. Jamie, Trisha David and Lauren are now working on this full-time drawing a salary, determined by a board of directors. The need is great, and we hope to add more staff as soon as possible.
2. Meeting financial needs. Our goal for 2007 is to contribute $100k to the treatment, recovery and support of young people facing depression, addiction, suicide and self-injury.
Though, the new Marc Jacobs line may be amazing, and Louis Vuitton may have those oh-so-stylisht new pumps you've been wanting, but are they really making a difference?
The Syrentha J. Savio Endowment (SSE) was established by punk-rock photographer Mark Beemer in 2002. SSE provides financial assistance to underprivileged women who cannot afford expensive breast cancer medicine and therapy. The Shirts For A Cure Project (SFAC) was launched by SSE to give voice to the social concerns of punk bands and their many fans as well as to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention.
When a band donates a shirt design to SFAC, the design becomes exclusive to SSE. We sell the shirt and use the proceeds to help women fighting breast cancer. If you would like to support our cause please take a moment to peruse the more then 90 shirts we offer. All shirts are printed on 100% pre-shrunk cotton unless otherwise stated. For a donation of $12 (plus shipping and handling) you will be helping someone who is in need as well as receiving an exclusive shirt from your favorite band.
